The only way is Essex – Site Clearance

At the start of the month of march we was called on by a landlord down in Essex, He owns some land which he has several small units to rent out.

One of his long term tenants had unfortunately gone out of business and had left behind a lot of waste chemicals from his two businesses, the first being a general office cleaning services and the other being a pine door refurbishment company – which strips the varnish and paint off pine doors.

He required a Site clearance.

The waste which was left on site was several 1000ltr ibc containers full of caustic striping solution (used to strip the pine doors) and many drums of the same solution also from the other side of the owners business (office cleaning), there was drums ranging from 25ltrs up to 200ltr with various cleaning chemicals (toilet cleaners, hard surface cleaners etc.)

Essex is 4.5 hours from AMB ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES whom are based in west Yorkshire, We travelled down the M1 motorway in our 44 tonne curtain sided vehicle, which is ADR compliant.

To be ADR Compliant you need to carry Special Equipment – See Below

The kit contains everything required for HGVs to comply with the ADR regulations for carrying any hazard class:

Full ADR Kit.

Containing: Gloves, eyewash x 2, chemical suit, goggles, respirator with ABEK filters, safety wellington boots, hazard warning triangles x 2, hi-vis waist coat, neoprene drain seal/cover 2-part anti-static shovel safety torch including batteries, microlite x 2 including batteries, waste disposal bags & ties x 2, Yellow wheel chock x 2, Plus a first aid kit all in a large bag.

Also the Kit Contains:

9kg Dry powder extinguisher.
3kg Dry powder extinguisher with cab bracket (must be carried in cab).
Chemical spill kit.
Folding Hazchem Sign 300x400mm (One at the front and rear of the vehicle).

We arrived on site around midday and the job took around 3 hours with the help of two local Essex lads who work with the landlord, It was a hard day as the weather was not on our side it was snowing a blizzard and felt like it was 12 below but we got there in the end.

So with a clear yard, a full vehicle and a happy Essex landlord we was on our way back up north.
